Jonah
is generally a man who people say was a repentant and Godly man, but is that
really true? Going solely by some of the first chapters, I say no. This is for
a few reasons, first when God tells him to go to Nineveh to help the city, he
refuses and runs in the opposite direction because he did not want to help
them. The next reason is that when he is in the ship sleeping and the captain
is asking him to Call on God to see if he will stop the storms, he just doesn’t
do what the captain asks at all. The last reason I think Jonah was not repentant
was because he never really did repent while he was in the fish, he knew that
his only way out was to do what God said so he asked to be spit out of the
whale. In the next chapters there are a few more examples of Jonah’s
selfishness, but these that I have mentioned are the best for proof.
